Penthouse Kitchen

This uniquely streamlined kitchen was designed and buillt
for the penthouse apartment of an Atlanta real estate developer.
He wanted an essentially Italian look, wet, shiny, smooth and columnar.
The corresponding motif, therefore, is fluid and curved.
The base cabinet in front of the curved glass block wall was
fashioned by a special process employing fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin.
There are curved glass blocks on the east wall and window glass
blocks on the west wall.
The cabinets are made of genuine mahogany, chosen for its
stability. Mahogany will not expand and contract due to
humidity or other atmospheric conditions. A super high gloss
white plastic laminate completely covers the cabinets on the
outside while the insides are covered in white vinyl. The
eye-riveting columns at the kitchen entrance constitute an original
design utilizing two countertops joined with chrome strips.
These columns are made by a special process to ensure their mirror
finish. For uniformity of design, there are no black lines visible
at corners or joints. Instead, all edges of doors and drawers
are sealed white opaque vinyl which adheres by means of a
NASA developed glaze. Cabinet curves are double stick chrome
and have hi-tech material "door guard" to prevent chipping and wear.
All floors and countertops are solid 1" marble finished with a
special preparation designed to repel staining. The edges are
polished as well as book-matched. The cabinet pulls are made
of smooth durable automotive trim with white vinyl insert.
The chrome and base molding is mirror finished laminate and
highly polished chrome.
No harsh texture mars the flawless perfection of any surface.
In addition to the beauty of the design this marvelous
kitchen has numerous features. The ceiling has recessed
lighting and the toe kicks underneath the cabinets have
fluorescent lights with dimmers and are constructed to
slide out at a touch for easy cleaning and accessibility.
The base cabinets are on full extension nylon ball bearing
slides and house slide-out white wire baskets from Sweden.
All drawers roll on white enameled steel slides from
Austria which are considered to be the quietest slides in
the world. All cabinet hinges feature a 180 degree radius
to allow maximum ease.
